JPASonline is a product of Dataspace, a consulting and software company that specializes in the field of business intelligence and data warehousing.
Founded in 1994, Dataspace helps major corporations and government entities get value from the data locked up in their computer systems. Dataspace clients including companies such as General Motors, ABC / Disney, AIG Insurance and governmental organizations like Oakland County, Michigan and Washtenaw County, Michigan.
JPASonline is the direct result of Dataspace consulting work with corrections departments. Forward thinking departments understand the value of data in addressing the issues of jail overcrowding and jail management. Dataspace was brought in to help these counties build their jail data analysis systems. The result was that our clients gained a much better perspective on the drivers of their overcrowding. Sharing this information with their criminal justice coordinating committees (CJCCs) helped make a real impact on the problem.
After building jail data analysis systems for a number of counties it became clear that overcrowding is an issue encountered by most counties in the US and that better analysis and sharing of jail data is a big part of the solution. But, these jail business intelligence systems can be quite costly to build and maintain. Dataspace looked for an alternative and found the answer in the burgeoning field of software as a service (SaaS).
With SaaS systems customers run no software. They, instead, access their system over the web using their standard web browser. SaaS is the hottest trend in technology today and major corporations and organizations are rapidly adopting it. A good example of a successful SaaS system is Salesforce.com (www.salesforce.com). With Salesforce.com, major corporations are entrusting their most valuable data, their customer information, to a web service.
